How to install the DNS Server role using Server Manager from the Windows desktop

Step 1: Begin by navigating to the Windows desktop, then open the Start menu and select the Server Manager tile.

Step 2: In the Server Manager menu, go to “Manage,” and then choose “Add Roles and Features.”

Step 3: On the “Before you begin” page, click “Next” to initiate the setup process.

Step 4: Next, on the “Select installation type” page, opt for the “Role-based or feature-based installation” and then click “Next.”

Step 5: The “Select destination server” page will appear; you can leave the default settings as they are. Click “Next” to continue.

Step 6: On the “Select server roles” page, select the checkbox for “DNS Server,” and then click the “Next” button.

Step 7: You may be prompted to add features that are necessary for the DNS Server. If you are satisfied with the default selections, simply choose “Add Features.”

Step 8: On the “Select features” page, you can maintain the default feature selections and click “Next.”

Step 9: Review the role description and important information provided on the “DNS Server” page, then click “Next” to proceed.

Step 10: On the “Confirm installation selections” page, carefully review the chosen roles and features. Once you are ready, click the “Install” button to initiate the installation process.

Step 11: After the installation is complete, select “Close.” It’s worth noting that this installation does not necessitate a system reboot.
